Longbranch Original Salsa Picante Hot Sauce
Reviewed by: Jamie O'Neil
Ingredients: Apple cider vinegar, water, de Arbol peppers, roasted pumpkin seeds, garlic, roasted pine nuts, sea salt, spices, Habanero peppers,
Chipotle morita peppers, xantham gum
Flavor and Taste 8/10
I decided to try the sauce in a hot wing marinade. I got busy & by the time the wings hit the grill they had been
marinading for 3 days. Highly recommended mistake. Some bleu cheese dressing from the produce aisle & we we're in business. Wow, we're they awesome.
If I had to sum the flavor up, I would say that this sauce reminded me slightly of Heinz 57 sauce with some interesting pepper arrangements.
It's more complex with stronger garlic undertones and lot hotter, but reminiscent flavor wise.
As 57 is pretty much a classic sauce, that can be taken as a compliment.
If you like tangy & hot, i'd say you've met your match. I really enjoyed this sauce.
Consistency 8/10
Thicker than catsup consistency. Again, similar to Heinz 57 in color. Nice red flakes and chunky bits of ground peppers, seeds and nuts throughout.
Pretty thick for a hot sauce.
Label 6/10
The Longbranch labels remind me of a house brand steak sauce you'd find on a road trip somewhere.
Not that bad, but i'm not sure it's something that would catch my eye in a crowd of bottles.
The bottle for all the different flavors look very similar other than a few subtle color differences.
I guess I feel they don't do the sauce justice.
Heat Level 7/10
Pretty hot but not unbearable. The heat leveled out pretty quick for me once my mouth got used to the sauce then it was all good. Addicting.
Overall 7/10
Although I compared it to 57, it still has a pretty unique flavor.
If your in the mood to try something different, this may be the ticket. I almost gave this an 8 but didn't care for the label too much.
Did I mention it's hot. It could bite you if your not careful. The de arbol peppers add an interesting flavor to the mix.
I think they are a member of the chile family. Long, hot, skinny red ones. You know the guy senior, he's your friend.
I think it would go good with a lot of different foods, from heating up an omelet to waking up your tacos.
I'll be discovering new uses for it i'm sure. I say give it a try, you'll be glad you did.
